Three Times the Violence

We created a documentary about the high levels of violence against people with disabilities. A 2012 Department of Justice national survey indicated that there were 1.3 million acts of violence including murders, rapes, robberies, and physical assaults.

Jennifer Daugherty’s is one account highlighted in this documentary. Daugherty, who had a developmental disability, was tortured for more than 36 hours and murdered before being wrapped in Christmas decorations, put inside a garbage can and dumped in the parking lot of Greensburg-Salem Middle School on February 11, 2010. According to her relatives, Daugherty had the mental abilities of a 12 to 14 year-old, she trusted everyone, and she thought the suspects were her “friends”.
