The Gift

A photographic exhibition exploring life beyond limits

This was a joint project of No Lints Media and the United Nations Office of Exhibitions, in support of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Original introduction of The Gift

This photographic collection arose from a belief that this was the moment to give a new face to people with disabilities. This photo show is part of a worldwide effort to ratify and accept the UN’s new international convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. The convention establishes:

“Respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity and assumes their full and effective participation and inclusion in society.”

The show’s title arose from a shared perception of many people with disabilities that they experience the world in an insightful, emphatic, creative and sometimes exhaustive way. These are not images of anguish or discrimination. Rather, they are images of people who have had to go beyond their limits to achieve a valued place in the world.

This exhibition is being created through an international outreach effort which is collecting the photos. The effort is organized and curated by No Limits Media in support of the UN secretariat for the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and in consultation with the U.N. office of exhibitions. The Gift exhibition will be designed for ease of travel and display in major cities and UN offices around the world.
